JULIA Welcomes a new partner: meet GeoNumerics!
The JULIA project is thrilled to welcome a new partner to the project: GeoNumerics.
GeoNumerics is an R&D company with extensive experience in geomatics. Its team consists of expert geomaticians from diverse scientific, technical, and managerial backgrounds. The company specialises in consultancy services, software component development, and R&D projects, focusing on high-precision kinematic surveying, sensor orientation and calibration, trajectory determination, and system integration. With its expertise in positioning, and navigation, GeoNumerics will play a pivotal role in achieving the project’s overarching objectives. GeoNumerics is actively involved in various EUSPA projects, including egeniouss, JULIA’s sister project.
GeoNumerics will contribute to the development of market-ready applications benefitting from Galileo’s differentiators, namely the OSNMA (Open Service Navigation Message Authentication) and HAS (High Accuracy Service). The applications will be piloted at various sites in Catalonia (Spain), Greece and Slovenia. GeoNumerics will integrate its NEXA system into INIT’s Copilot device, which will be deployed in selected vehicles at pilot sites. One of the applications that Geonumerics, alongside other JULIA partners will be developing and testing is a distance-based public transport ticketing validation requiring authentication of GNSS signals (provided by OSNMA). Moreover, working together with other JULIA partners, GeoNumerics will enable the testing and evaluation of an autonomous shuttle service in Slovenia. This pilot relies on high-precision geolocation (provided by HAS) to enable real time validation of the vehicle’s theoretical route, namely of actual or virtual stops, in relation to the coordinates that the vehicle’s applications and on-board systems generate.
With GeoNumerics on board, the JULIA project is set to benefit from leading expertise in Galileo-based solutions, strengthening its mission to enhance public transport operations across Europe.
The new partner was onboarded during the JULIA General Assembly, that took place on 2 July at the Factual Consulting office in sunny Barcelona (hybrid). This meeting was a great opportunity to reflect on the progress of the project, and the partners are now gearing up for the Level-1 Pilots launch in September! The pilots will take place in Slovenia (Piran, Ormož and Domžale), Greece (Athens and Thessaloniki) and Spain (Lleida and Barcelona), with a focus on making the most of Galileo and Copernicus-enabled applications for public transport. The meeting also provided an opportunity for the new GeoNumerics partner to meet the other JULIA partners. The day was a real highlight, with a packed schedule that included WP leaders offering insights and receiving constructive feedback from the participating partners. A consortium lunch provided the perfect opportunity to strengthen the commitment between partners and the project.
