JULIA and SPACE4Cities join forces to leverage EU space services for Urban Resilience
On 14th of May 2024, representatives from the JULIA and SPACE4Cities projects held their first joint meeting, marking the beginning of a promising collaboration aimed at enhancing urban resilience through the innovative use of space technology and satellite data.
Both projects, funded under the Horizon Europe programme and EUSPA, share a common vision of improving urban environments by leveraging advanced space-based technologies. This initial meeting set the stage for a series of collaborative efforts designed to maximize the impact of their combined expertise and resources.
Key discussion points included:
Integration of Space Technology: The projects will explore how the European Global Navigation Satellite System (Galileo) and Earth Observation data (Copernicus) can be used to improve public transport systems and the management of public spaces.
Digital Transformation: Both projects aim to promote the use of digital tools and data products to enhance urban mobility and public space utilization, advancing the modernization of the public sector.
Climate Action and Sustainability: The collaboration will support cities in achieving carbon neutrality and addressing climate-related challenges through innovative, tech-driven solutions.
The meeting also outlined a roadmap for future collaborative activities, including:
Webinars: Jointly hosted webinars to share knowledge, best practices, and project developments with a broader audience.
Conferences: Common attendance and presentations at industry conferences to showcase their collaborative work and attract further support and interest from stakeholders.
Cities collaboration and exchanges: the two projects cover a wide network of pilot cities and regions, particularly through the Open and Agile Smart Cities (OASC) and POLIS, together encompassing +250 cities. The collaboration will then foster the dissemination of EU space services across member states. Interactive workshops to engage with city planners, public transport operators, and other stakeholders, creating a dynamic exchange of ideas and solutions.
This partnership is expected to create a synergy that will enhance the effectiveness of both projects, ultimately contributing to more resilient, efficient, and sustainable urban environments across Europe. The collaboration aims to bring to market new solutions, improve city economies, support innovation, and provide a better living environment for citizens.
Stay tuned for more updates on this exciting collaboration and its impact on urban resilience and public transport innovation.
